Your car suddenly stopped on a Jeddah road? Do not panic. This is a practical step-by-step guide from the Satha Alam team: how to protect yourself first, what to check, when to call us and what to send so we can reach you.

When the engine cuts out, a strange noise starts or the temperature light comes on, the first thought is usually: how do I get a broken-down car tow truck fast? That matters, but it is not step one. Step one is getting yourself and your passengers away from danger. A car can be repaired or moved. Secondary collisions with a car stopped in a live lane are what we see far too often in our work.
From more than ten years of moving cars inside Jeddah, most dangerous situations are not caused by the fault itself. They happen because the driver stopped in the wrong place, stayed inside the car on a fast lane, or got out on the traffic side. So we laid out this guide in the order we wish every driver followed.
Read it now while you are calm, and save our number 058 056 4950 in your phone, because a breakdown is not the time for searching and reading.

If you feel the car is about to stop, do not brake hard in the middle of the lane. Turn on the hazard lights straight away, slow down gradually and try to reach the right shoulder, the nearest exit or a lay-by. On expressways like King Abdulaziz Road, Madinah Road and Al Haramain Road traffic moves fast, and stopping in the left lane is very dangerous.
Once stopped, pull the handbrake and turn the wheels away from the road if you are on a slope. If you have a warning triangle, place it behind the car far enough for approaching drivers to see it in time, further back where speeds are higher. Do not walk into a busy lane just to place it.
Get out through the door away from traffic, and have passengers do the same. Stand behind the barrier or on the pavement away from the car, never directly behind or in front of it, because a rear impact pushes the car forward.
Jeddah summers are hot and humid, and standing in the sun for long is exhausting even for a healthy adult. A parked car without air conditioning becomes an oven within minutes. Never leave a child, an elderly person or a pet inside a switched-off car in the sun, even briefly, even with windows open.
If there is safe shade nearby, such as a petrol station, building or tree away from the road, move there. Always keep water in the car. If anyone feels dizzy or very unwell, they come before the car, so call the unified emergency number 911.
If the car is in a safe spot away from traffic, the engine runs and the fault has nothing to do with heat or smoke, you can run the AC for the children for a short time. If there is a burning smell, smoke or a fuel leak, switch off and move away.
From the calls we get every day, some faults come up far more than others, and most are linked to heat. Knowing the likely cause helps you act correctly and helps us know what we need before we arrive.
We are not telling you to fix the car yourself. Knowing these faults helps you decide whether it is minor or needs a flatbed to the workshop.
High heat shortens battery life. Signs: slow cranking, a clicking sound at the key, or dim dashboard lights. Sometimes a jump start is enough, sometimes it needs replacing.
The gauge climbs into the red or steam comes from the bonnet. Common causes are low coolant, a leak or a failed fan. Driving while overheating can badly damage the engine.
Hot asphalt and wrong tyre pressure raise the risk of a blowout. If you have a spare, tools and can change it safely away from traffic, fine. Otherwise ask for help.
If the battery light comes on while driving, the alternator may not be charging and the car will die soon. Do not continue far.
Running out of fuel in traffic happens more than you think. Gearbox faults, like loss of drive or a loud noise, need a flatbed, not towing on the wheels.
Call us or send your location on WhatsApp. We will tell you the price and arrival time in minutes. The Satha Alam team is ready day and night.
If you are somewhere safe away from traffic, there are simple things you can look at without tools or experience. The goal is not to repair the car but to give us accurate information and see whether the problem is minor.
The key rule: if the engine is hot or steaming, never open the radiator cap. The coolant is under pressure and very hot and can cause serious burns. Wait until the car is completely cool.
Not every fault needs a flatbed. If the battery is weak and you have jumper cables and someone to help, you may start the car and drive to a shop. If you have a flat and a spare and can change it safely, carry on. But in some cases it is better to call a broken-down car tow truck straight away rather than risk your safety or the engine.
Our rule for customers: if the problem is the engine, gearbox, brakes or temperature, do not drive. Every kilometre with high heat or a loud noise can turn a small repair into a big one. A flatbed carries the car to the workshop without running it.
Our hydraulic flatbed has a pulling winch, so even if the car will not start at all or has a locked wheel, we pull it gently onto the bed and secure it with straps and chains on four points.
If the car stopped because of an accident, the order changes a little. First make sure everyone is safe, and if anyone is injured call 911 immediately. Second, traffic accidents in Saudi cities are handled by Najm or the traffic police depending on the case, so report to the right party and follow their instructions.
Photograph the scene from several angles, including plates and positions on the road, before any car moves if it is safe to do so. In minor accidents without injuries you are often asked to move the cars aside after taking photos, but follow what Najm or the traffic police tell you in your case.
Do not load the car onto a tow truck before you are sure the procedure is complete or moving is allowed. When ready, call us and tell us it is an accident car and what is damaged, for example a broken or locked wheel, because that decides how we load it. Then we give you a clear price before we move.
The clearer the information from the start, the faster we arrive and the more accurate the price. The easiest way is one WhatsApp message with everything, instead of many calls while you stand at the roadside.
If you are on an expressway and do not know its exact name, a live location is enough. Mention your direction too, north or south, because expressways have separate carriageways and reaching the other side can mean a long loop.
If the car is in a building or mall car park, tell us the level, the entrance and whether the ceiling is low, because that decides whether the truck can get in or we winch the car out to an open spot first.
Here is everything above in one table. Screenshot it and keep it on your phone so you do not have to remember it all while stressed.
| Step | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First sign of trouble | Hazard lights on and slow down gradually | Warns drivers behind and avoids a collision |
| Stopping | Head for the right shoulder or nearest exit and pull the handbrake | Gets the car out of the traffic lane |
| Warning | Place the triangle behind the car if safe | Gives drivers time to see you |
| Getting out | Exit on the side away from traffic and wait behind the barrier | People matter more than the car |
| Heat and children | Never leave them in a switched-off car; find safe shade and drink water | Jeddah heat is dangerous for children and the elderly |
| Simple checks | Photograph dashboard lights, check fuel, tyres and leaks; never open a hot radiator | Accurate information and no burns |
