Your car cannot be driven to the periodic inspection? Broken, parked for months, or registration expired? When a flatbed is the answer, how to plan the workshop and inspection trips, and what to prepare.

Most people drive to the periodic inspection (MVPI) themselves. But in many cases it makes sense to tow your car to periodic inspection on a flatbed: a car that will not start, a fault that makes driving unsafe, a car parked at home for months with a dead battery and flat tyres, or a car whose registration has expired and the owner does not want to drive it on public roads.
Satha Alam moves cars from every Jeddah district to workshops and inspection stations, and back home if needed. This is not an official guide to inspection procedures; it is a practical transport guide: when you need a flatbed, how to plan the trips between home, workshop and station, and what to prepare.
We understand it can be a nagging job: a car sitting outside the house for a year with expired papers. Taken step by step, it is simpler than it looks: assess, workshop if needed, book, then organised transport between each stop.
One rule first: inspection procedures, requirements, appointments and fees are set by the official authorities and can change. Always check the official periodic technical inspection channel, and let us handle the transport.

The periodic technical inspection is a safety check at approved stations to confirm the car’s essential parts are roadworthy. Generally it covers brakes, lights and indicators, tyres, steering, suspension, exhaust, body and glass, and matching the car to its papers.
Booking is usually done online in advance through the official inspection platform, choosing a station and time. Check the official channel for the current booking method and documents, as we cannot give official information on fees or rules.
One point many people miss: the inspection usually involves running and moving the car on the test equipment. A flatbed solves getting there, but it will not make a broken car pass. If it does not start, or has brake or steering faults, it belongs at a workshop first.
Before booking, you can usually check your inspection status and expiry through the official online services using your registration details.
These are the inspection-related cases we see most in Jeddah, each needing a different plan:
A dead battery that will not jump, or an engine or gearbox fault. It goes to the workshop first, then you drive it or we tow it to inspection.
Weak brakes, a clear leak, a damaged tyre or steering trouble. Even if it runs, driving it in Jeddah traffic is a risk.
Many prefer not to drive with expired papers, as it may lead to a traffic violation. Check the rules with the official traffic channels.
Flat battery, low tyres, brakes stuck from rust, old fluids. It needs a workshop check before the road.
Back from bodywork or a major repair and not yet proven ready. We move it to inspection or to another workshop.
Travelling, ill, no valid licence, or a classic car. We move it without the owner if someone hands it over.
A car left for months in Jeddah heat and humidity changes even if it was fine when parked. The battery drains, tyres lose pressure and may crack in the sun, light rust makes brake pads stick, and fluids and fuel age. Sometimes there are nests or damaged wires under the bonnet.
So do not just start it and drive to inspection. Safer to take it to a workshop first on the flatbed, fix what is needed, then go to inspection ready. That saves a possible fail and an extra trip.
Such cars may have tyres that do not roll easily or stuck brakes, so we winch them gently up the tilted bed of our hydraulic flatbed and strap them at four points. Help us by:

The most common mistake is booking the inspection, then discovering a dead bulb, a bald tyre or an oil leak. Prepare the car first, then book:
Does it start? Any obvious brake, light or tyre faults? If in doubt, the workshop comes first.
If it cannot be driven safely, send us the car and workshop locations for a clear price before we move.
Tell the workshop you are heading for inspection so they check lights, brakes, tyres, leaks and exhaust.
Once ready, book a suitable slot with enough time after the repair.
If it is roadworthy and the papers allow, drive it. If not, arrange the tow from workshop to station.
After inspection the car may go home or back to the workshop. Agree this upfront.
An inspection trip is rarely one move. It may be home to station and back, home to workshop then station, or back to the workshop after a fail. Share the full plan upfront and we give a clear price before we move for each leg.
Waiting matters too. Inspection time depends on how busy the station is, so agree whether the truck waits or drops the car and comes back later. It affects the plan and the price.
On timing, avoid Jeddah’s peak hours such as the morning school and work rush. We calculate the time to reach your car from our base in Al Marwah and then to the station, so you arrive with time to spare.
Common scenarios:
| Scenario | First leg | Second leg | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car is fine but papers or condition prevent driving | Home to inspection station | Station to home | Agree on waiting or a later pickup |
| Car broken, needs repair | Home to workshop | After repair: drive or tow to station | Do not book before you know the repair time |
| Parked for months | Home to workshop for preparation | Workshop to station, or drive | A full check lowers the risk of failing |
| Car failed inspection | Station to workshop | Workshop to station for re-inspection | Check re-inspection rules on the official channel |
| Owner not present | Car location to workshop or station | As planned | Arrange someone to hand over and receive |
The day runs smoothly when the small things are ready:
An inspection run gets the same care as any job. Our hydraulic flatbed tilts close to the ground, suiting normal, low, electric and hybrid cars, SUVs, pickups, minibuses and light Dynas within a load of about 3.5 tons:
We look at the car with you and photograph it before loading so its condition is clear.
A running car drives up the tilted bed; a dead one is winched on gently.
We secure it with straps or chains at four points and check it does not move.
We unload at a spot that makes entering the station or workshop easy, and you check the car with us.
After more than ten years in Saudi Arabia and over 19,000 vehicles moved, these are the usual culprits:
Call or WhatsApp 058 056 4950. Send the car location, the workshop or station location, car type and condition, and your appointment if booked.
We give a clear price before we move for each leg and agree a suitable time. We work inside Jeddah and its districts only, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
